Playing With Fire: Taboo Erotica

So I’ve written a few reviews on here about the toys I’ve tried and so I thought I’d include a review of something I read to get into the mood for those toys.  Playing with Fire is one book of a growing collection that is filled with erotic stories.  This particular book is edited by Alison Tyler who boasts an impressive editing and writing history in the world of erotica.  According to the ‘About the Editor’ section of this book, she has over 80 stories  in different anthologies, has written over 25 novels, and edited over 45 anthologies.  So, she’s basically done it all in the erotica world.  This book contains stories from 22 different authors, one of which is Alison Tyler.

The focus of the stories in this book is indulging in the forbidden and, often, getting caught. The characters vary, but most of the main characters are females. One recurring theme throughout the book seems to be infidelity, so if that is something that you feel strongly about (in a negative way), then you probably will not enjoy a large portion of the stories. Some of the authors incorporate the idea of ‘playing with fire’ more while some literally have their characters playing with fire. There’s probably a story in here that anyone interested in buying an erotica book could enjoy.

So, here are my favorite of the stories:

One Hot Slut by N.T. Morley- A woman has given herself a make-over to look and feel like a hot slut.  She has set up her bedroom to be the ultimate sexy pleasure den and can’t stop thinking about all the things she’s going to do when her man gets home.  She feels like a slut because of something she’s done and ends up doing something she never thought she would.

Where There’s Smoke by Kristina Wright- This story is about a couple having sex when her husband asks her if her lover’s cock is big.  The female character is caught completely off-guard, thinking she has been better at hiding her affair.  As they continue on, her husband keeps asking her details about what she and her lover did together and she reluctantly reveals the sordid details which only seems to amp her husband up more.  I’d tell you more, but I don’t want to ruin how the story turns out!

The Salsa Bar by Jolene Hui- The main character is on vacation with her mother in France and has a crush on her French tour guide.  Her mother encourages her to have a little vacation fun and they invite him and another man to go to a salsa bar.  The main character gets pretty drunk and ends up going out on the beach with the tour guide and engaging in a steamy sex session during which they are joined by another tourist on the beach.  This is a sexy stranger three-way with the knowledge that vacation means it’s just for fun.

Hot Off the Press by Thomas S. Roche- This is a story of ambition and sex.  The main character, Deidre, is trying to get published in a paper that writes stories about celebrity encounters and she is willing to do anything to get her story.  This is one of the few stories in the anthology that has any sex other than male/female sex.  I can’t tell you if she got her story (because that would ruin the ending) but I can tell you she has a lot of good times along the way.

Scorched by Janine Ashbless- This is possibly my favorite of all the stories.  Emerald is living with her boyfriend and his best friend and fucking them both.  She hurries home from dropping her boyfriend off to get to have a tryst with his friend only to be interrupted by her boyfriend who has known all along about her behavior.  The two men proceed to ‘punish’ her and then bring her to several screaming orgasms as they please themselves.  This story is one of the few that has spanking aspects, which I greatly enjoy.

The Last Cigarette by Heidi Champa- The main character is at a ritzy party for her fiancée’s family when she steps outside to smoke a cigarette and enjoy the view from the balcony.  While she’s leaning over the edge of the balcony enjoying a sense of freedom, a waiter comes out and surprises her.  They exchange some conversation that leads to some intense sexually charged chemistry.  The two end up hooking up with her leaning over the edge of the balcony, being held only by the waiter.  The main character (who’s name is never given) experiences a sense of adrenaline and an intense orgasm from the sexy and somewhat frightening experience and then continues on with her night.

I could probably add a few more stories but I’d like to leave some surprises for you!  All together, there are 162 pages for the stories, some as short as half a page and the longest at 14 pages.  Most of the stories are regular male/female encounters but there are a few with spanking and bondage elements, one with a femme dom element and at least one with female/female action.  I found the stories to be quick reads that definitely got my blood flowing and my mind in the gutter.
