Blossom Organics Revitalizing Breast Exam Cream

Breast cancer is a disease that has become very prominent in society throughout my life.  It may be that it is more acceptable in society to talk openly about illnesses, that breast cancer is more common or simply that I’m just more aware of things going on around me.  One thing I know for sure is that nearly everyone knows someone who has had breast cancer or has a friend or family member who knows someone has or had it.  As a woman, I find the idea of breast cancer terrifying.  It is bad enough for your body to be sick but breasts are a part of what we identify  being female with (whether they be big or small) and losing them to cancer or mastectomy can be a difficult transition for many women.  To give you an idea of the size of this growing health problem, here are some statistics taken from the American Cancer Society website:

The American Cancer Society’s most recent estimates for breast cancer in the United States are for 2010:

  • About 207,090 new cases of invasive breast cancer in women
  • About 54,010 new cases of carcinoma in situ (CIS) will be found (CIS is non-invasive and is the earliest form of breast cancer).
  • About 39,840 deaths from breast cancer (women)

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, other than skin cancer. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer.

Good Vibrations recently offered the Blossom Organics Revitalizing Breast Exam Cream for review so I snapped it up.  There is an ongoing debate about the usefulness of self exams in the medical community, but if it is my breasts and my health, I’d rather do even the smallest thing to possibly detect a problem early.  This cream makes doing a self exam a little nicer, more of a time of pampering than an awkward boob rub.  Plus, they even include a small pamphlet with directions of how to properly examine your breasts.  The pamphlet is small enough that you could easily tuck away for discreet convenience in case you want a little reminder.  (The steps to doing a self exam can be found here)

The Blossom Organics Revitalizing Breast Exam Cream comes in a 1.7 fl oz. container with a discreet white and purple label (no awkward pics of a woman examining her breasts) and a silver lid.  The lid unscrews to open.  The cream itself is a beige color and smells slightly sweet.  It reminds me of soy milk, actually, which I love, but is barely noticeable once you have it rubbed in.  The consistency is nice and creamy and a little goes a long way.  I have size DD breasts and am able to dip two fingers into the tub coating lightly and have enough to moisturize and massage my one breast.  The cream allows for your fingers to glide over your skin and leaves it feeling soft and smooth.  I like to use it just before I go to bed and when I wake up my skin is still soft and smooth.

The directions and instructions from the box are as follows:

USAGE: Apply a generous amount of breast exam cream to your breasts for intimate massage or use the self-exam instructions enclosed.  Apply daily as desired.

INGREDIENTS: Organic cocos nucifera (coconut) milk & prunus dulcis (almond) milk, organic plant oils of helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed, theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter) fruit & rosa canina (rose hip) fruit, organic essential fatty acids of oenothera biennis (evening primrose), linum usitatissimum (linseed) seed & borago officinali (borage) seed, glyceryl stearate, cetyl alcohol, stearic acid, glycerin, organic tequilana azul (blue agave) leaf extract, organic vanilla planifolia fruit oil, tocopherol (vitamin E), magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (vitamin C), xanthan gum, caprylyl glycol, sodium citrate, potassium sorbate, ethylhexyl glycerin, organic extracts of paeonia albiflora (peony) root & passiflora incarnata flower.

The purpose of this cream is to get women comfortable with examining themselves and familiar with their breasts so that they will notice changes if there are any.  I really like this cream and love the scent.  According to the Blossom Organics website, every purchase of this cream will bring a $5.00 donation from them to the Breast Cancer Fund and since this is only available to purchase through Good Vibrations, I expect that goes for those sales.  Good Vibrations has a great reputation for providing sex toys and products for women that are good for us in so many ways.  This is just one more product that falls into that category.
